Chapter 213: Help Escape a Compromising Situation

Chapter 213: Help Escape a Compromising Situation

Bai Yu was his father. He was not talking to a cop. He should be able to talk to the father who is giving him a way out. But no.

It seemed Bai Ye Qing had made up his mind about what would happen. The end result was already in his mind.

Bai Yu continued to press for answered, but Bai Ye Qing didn\'t budge. He blasted his son for refusing to take help. In its response, Bai Ye Qing seethed.

"I will help myself. I don\'t need you to handle matters for me when you are clearly not on my side," he said.

Bai Yu was about to speak up when he saw Chen Yue push the door open.

"Bai Ye Qing, do you mind going to the store to buy me an ice pack? My back is hurting and the one I had is too old," she grumbled, Bai Ye Qing looked between his parents and nodded. He slowly left the room and made his way down.

The police hid when Bai Ye Qing left the house. They still had a tail on him at all times.

The officers had a clear sense of what just happened. Chen Yue was attempting to help her son escape a compromising situation. She was trying to play it cool, pretending like nothing was happening and that Bai Ye Qing had nothing to do with the charges against him.

"Did you bring him here to interrogate him?" Chen Yue asked, anger evident in her voice.

"I am just asking him if something happened. Why are you getting so bothered by it all?" he questioned. "It was a normal conversation. If we don\'t clear the misunderstanding, how are we supposed to live as a family from now on?"

"You are accusing him blindly," Chen Yue hissed.

"I am not accusing him blindly. You are the one who is blind. Enjoy it while you can," he told her mirthlessly.

"What is that supposed to mean?" she questioned immediately.

"Bai Ye Qing did some very bad things. It\'s obvious," Bai Yu said. "But I feel like you are helping him cover it up. Chen Yue, how much of what he has been doing did you know?" he asked. He hoped and prayed that she had nothing to do with Wenxi\'s death.

If she did, he wouldn\'t sit still.

"Excuse me? It is not obvious to me," Chen Yue said. "It may be obvious to you but you are imagining things, Yu. You\'re always had a hard time trusting other people. Especially those in your family. You are not living in reality," Chen Yue stated.

"I am the one not living in reality?" he countered. "You don\'t wonder or think it is wrong that he has been taking money from others, selling drugs, and whatnot? In what reality are you living in?"

Chen Yue stared.

"His explanation to everything doesn\'t make sense. Nothing he says makes any sense. I don\'t think he is telling a word of truth."

There was a moment of silence.

"You are a goddamn fucking bastard. That is what you are for talking about your son… our son that way. To make such things up…" Chen Yue trailed off.

"Is that so?" Bai Yu said glumly. "I suppose we will have to reconsider our living arrangements, then."

Chen Yue stiffened. "What does that mean? Are you threatening me?" she asked.

"I did no such thing. You said that I am a… fucking bastard. You have made yourself clear. I know what you think about me after so many decades of marriage. The bitterness you feel against me… I can see it all."

"I didn\'t tell you that," Chen Yue shouted. "You\'re a lying bastard for twisting my words like that."

The argument was towards its end. Bai Yu didn\'t want the police officers to listen in on his train wreck of a marriage falling apart.

"No. It is final. I am rejecting both of you as my family," Bai Yu said. "I\'ve given up on you, Chen Yue. Just… don\'t talk to me again. Don\'t even bother. Don\'t look for me when you need my help because I will not go out of my way to offer it," he said. His voice had an unkind streak.

"You\'re abandoning me?" she whispered.

"Nothing like that. I thought we could live amicably in the same house as long as we didn\'t talk, but that is a foregone conclusion. I will allow you to live in the house for tonight, tomorrow, you can go back and live with your son. The money in your personal account? I deposited it religiously every month. You can use it as long as you live. I will continue to put money into it. But if I find you helping Bai Ye Qing out with it… I might just cut you off, do you understand?" he threatened.

This was the last of the play. If Bai Ye Qing didn\'t answer any of his questions, he would have to sow discord. He would have to let Bai Ye Qing know that he wouldn\'t get a share of the property once his father called the lawyer.

As Chen Yue walked out of the office she felt panic. Not sadness. She saw Bai Ye Qing walking up the stairs, the ice pack in his hands.

"Ye Qing," she called hopelessly.

"What is wrong?" he asked, his brows furrowed. He looked at the office door, still ajar, and had a slight sense of what could have happened. "Did he snap at you for defending me?" he asked.

Chen Yue sniffed and nodded. "He… he threatened to cut us off. Said I wasn\'t allowed to help you and that he wanted to completely separate from me. What should I do, Ye Qing?" she cried.

His eyes hardened as it flickered to the office.

He hugged his mother as his jaw ticked with anger. "Don\'t worry. Nothing like that will happen. It\'s going to be okay…" he said.
